Every Wednesday and Sunday I get to listen to a Christian Radio station as I make my commute from my school to my church. I have been shocked by some of the things that are being taught in churches! Among the the most ridiculous things I have heard Pastors passionately preach, while listening to the radio, was during a sermon on Heaven. The Pastor said this, “I believe that when we get to Heaven, God is going to have one of those Men in Black mind wipers and he is going to use it on us before we enter. He is going to wipe all the sad memories away, so we don’t have to remember them anymore.” A Men in Black mind wiper? Seriously!?
Well that’s not the only ridiculous thing I’ve heard. I heard a Pastor say the following and I think he might have said it, because a lot of people believe it. He said, “Our potential is limited only by the calling God gives us.” I think that’s ridiculous, because it is the wrong way of looking at things.
God’s calling is not a limitation. We can go to the story of Moses, and see what happens when God calls him. Moses essentially says, “I can’t do that, I don’t have the ability.” However, Moses ended up following what God called him to do and he exceeded his potential. One thing we can be sure of, when we are seeking the Lord’s will he will be fighting for us.
“fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10
Callings are not a limitation to our potential, following God’s calling is a way to surpass potential. So go ahead seek God, see what he is calling you to. Be ready to say “yes” to whatever he has for you and be ready to do more than you could ever imagine. Be ready to be more than you thought possible.
